Susie was a rescue from Maricopa County. She is a petite little girl and has been used as a backyard breeder. It is apparant that this little puff ball has known little love or affection in her life. She was matted and so super scared at the pound. She trembled as she looked out from under dirty locks of hair at a volunteer. "It's okay, little dog," the volunteer said. Susie cocked one ear - could she be dreaming? Was this human speaking gently to HER? She didn't know what to do. Her tail wagged, but a lifetime of neglect made her cautious. The emotional/physical damage "breeding for profit" in backyards takes its toll on the animals used as money-makers. These dogs are never doted upon or cared for in any way. They are left outside in the elements and are bred over and over until their fertility wanes. With the current state of the economy, back-yard breeding operations arent making the profit in Arizona that they used to. So, rescue groups are seeing breeder dogs, just like Susie, flood the kill-shelter kennels. Susie has now been groomed and is getting used to being loved. She is still a shy little dog and bonds intensely with a primary human. Because of her hesitant nature and small size, Susie should not go to a home with small children. She will do best in a home where there are one or two humans ready and willing to provide all the affection this sweet little angel could hope for, and would really thrive in a home where she is not alone all the time, possibly a part time/retired/or work from home person, as she will need continuous work with socialization/leash training so she learns that humans CAN be good to her Won't you help us prove it to her?
