History
Angelina was brought to us from Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Before that, she was housed at the FLOCK Sanctuary is Pahrump, NV -- this facility housed over 800 cats and was shut down for its nightmarish conditions. Best Friends went to the rescue of these cats but could not take all 800. Paw Placement is doing our best to help them give these neglected cats a second chance at life. A first-hand account of the Pahrump facility states: "A volunteer tipped off county officers to the inhumane conditions inside the two-acre facility in Pahrump. The compound, surrounded by a 12-foot-high fence topped with barbed wire, was inhospitable desert landscape where the temperature often soared to 120 degrees.
Most of the cats were severely malnourished, some near death. They suffered from upper respiratory illnesses as well as ear mites, tapeworm, rotten teeth and gums, open wounds or eye infections. At least 40 died because they were so sick and weak.
“This is the worst I’ve seen in terms of animal cruelty and neglect,” says Mead, who was on-site at the beginning of the rescue. “When we got there, your eyes would water from the smell of urine and feces, and there were thousands of flies in every building.”
Poor Anglina is one of the luckier cats. She was nursed back to health and is now looking for her forever home. After living so long without feeling the kind touch of a human, she is shy and slow to warm up to friendly petting. She is not at all aggressive. But she will run away to hide when startled. And man, does she startle easily! Angelina needs a special human who will give her the patience she will need for her to trust humans again. She responds to petting by leaning in when you stroke her. However, it may be sometime before she actually seeks out that attention. She will make a great feline friend for another friendly kitty and will likely learn to love again if she has another friend to show her that we aren't all that bad. Please open your heart to a very special kitty cat.
